Tarique Thompson, a 2013 graduate of Hoke County, is Athlete of the Week.
He was conference boys’ basketball player of the year as a junior and senior. Thompson was a two-time All-Cape Fear selection and was selected for the East-West All-Star Game and the North Carolina vs. South Carolina All-Star Game. He then went on to play college basketball at High Point, where he averaged 10 points and 5.2 rebounds as a senior. Thompson also played professionally in Germany.
Thompson was named to the Hoke County High School Athletic Hall of Fame’s class of 2025. He will be inducted, with the rest of the class, in a Sept. 26 ceremony.
