FAYETTEVILLE – The summer heat took a break Friday evening to make the second football scrimmage of the season seem fall-like. The Hoke County Bucks took to the gridiron to face the Jack Britt Buccaneers in the Cumberland County Jamboree at Cape Fear High School with kickoff temperatures below 80 degrees. It was the coolest day in Fayetteville in weeks.
While there was no official score keeping, the Bucks topped the Buccaneers 12-6 in the third game of the evening in the Jamboree that featured eight one-hour scrimmage games at two sites.
Games at Cape Fear High School in Fayetteville also featured E.E. Smith v. Goldsboro, Seventy First v. Apex Friendship, and Cape Fear v. Triton.
Games at Westover High School in Fayetteville featured Terry Sanford v. Saint Pauls, Douglas Byrd v. Harnett Central, Pine Forest v. South View and Westover v. Gray’s Creek.
Hoke County will open the regular season next Friday in Hope Mills where they will fill face the Gray’s Creek Bears in a 4A non-conference game. The Bucks kicked off training camp last week in preparation for the 2022 season.
