Last Thursday, the Rockfish Community Chamber of Commerce hosted the North Carolina Department of Transportation (DOT) to discuss three major road projects.
During the meeting, the DOT representatives, Mr. Matthew Kitchens and Mr. Dagoberto Pozos, gave an informative presentation to members of the Rockfish community at the Rockfish Motor Sports & U-Haul located at 2950 Lindsay Road in Raeford.
Topics presented at the meeting included the Gillis Hill Extension (U-5857) and sister project (U-5707), the Wayside Road and Lindsay Road project (U-5753), the signal installation at Rockfish Road and Lindsay Road and any possible Cul-de-sacs.
The Gillis Hill extension right-of-way acquisition is currently anticipated to be completed in 2027. Construction is anticipated to be completed in 2029.
The Wayside Road and Lindsay Road right of way acquisition is underway and almost done, originally anticipated for completion in 2022. Construction is anticipated to be completed in 2026.
The Rockfish Road and Lindsay Road project signal design is currently being wrapped up. A waterline was found, which had to be adjusted. There is a lead time for signal poles that is typically about eight months. The DOT has pre-ordered the signal poles for the Rockfish/Lindsay Road project in an attempt to expedite the process. The project also includes a short turn lane. The signal installation is currently anticipated to start in the early summer of 2024. No businesses will be impacted, and the road will remain open during construction.
There are currently no plans to cul-de-sac any roads in the Rockfish area.
It was noted that project dates may change. If you have questions or concerns about road construction in your area, please contact the DOT at (910) 944-7621.
