RAEFORD — Incumbent Hoke County Commissioner James Leach was the top vote-getter in a seven-way Democratic Primary where voters could select two nominees for fill two seats in the general election.
With all precincts reporting, Leach had garnered 31.23% of the vote, enough to avoid a run-off with the other six candidates. Challenger Mary Blue McCollum received the second highest number of votes but did not cross the 30% threshold to avoid a run-off. North Carolina would allow incumbent commissioner Robert Wright the option to ask for a second primary with McCollum since neither crossed the 30% threshold.
